IUID Compliance Webinar on Thursday, March 5th at 2pm EST

The Defense Department created the IUID Policy to establish standards for marking and labeling all military equipment. One of the key goals was to make sure that every single item in the Department of Defense had a unique ID# that was permanently attached to the item in the form of a label, tag or plate. IUID is a US Military term for Item Unique Identification. It is a globally unique number assigned to a particular asset — in much the same way that a license plate is a unique number for a vehicle.

Maintaining IUID Compliance is a critical consideration for any organization that works with the DoD today.

MIL-STD-130 and the IUID Policy

Defense Contractors that either deliver equipment to the Military or manage government property need to understand the details of MIL-STD-130, as well as the DFARS 252.211-7003 marking and 252.211-7007 reporting clauses. The IUID Policy clearly outlines how to properly identify, label and report government assets. The IUID Policy is critical for maintaining visibility and accountability of assets and it establishes the standard and regulation for marking each asset with a unique identifier.

As the current administration and the US Congress bear down on the DoD and mandate compliance to the FIAR (Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness) Initiative there is even more pressure for compliance to the IUID Policy. A major component of the FIAR initiative is increased visibility and accountability into physical assets and property. Contractors today need to have systems in place to comply to these obligations.

With regards to MIL STD 130 and IUID compliance there are five fundamentals that you need to follow in order to meet contract regulations and be able to pass that inevitable DCMA audit.
